Hi
The password etc is the logon info for your W2k box ie user and pass that you enter at startup.
You need to add the W2k machine to your user accounts on the RH box. Edit smb.conf or use SWAT to set up the SAMBA access account, and enable SMB password encryption (or edit win registry to do the reverse).
If you open SWAT, at the bottom of the homepage, there's an easily understood whole book explaining what SAMBA does and how to configure.

Actually, the problem is that windows sends encrypted passwords while linux is expecting a plain text password. There is a registry hack for win2k that will turn off encrypted passwords. I am assuming that you can find this info on m$'s site. As an alternative you can set up a seperate samba password file which will work with the encrypted passwords that windows uses using the smbpasswd util which should be located in /usr/bin.

Isn't that registy hack supplied with the Samba documentation? Found it here...

http://fr.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/W...inPassword.reg

Run the file on your Win2000 boxes, but I'd investigate Dr Jim's method first as its much better to enable crypto on the Linux side if possible.

Jamie...
