I recently bought a "Teach yourself Linux" book that included redhat 6.1 with some other software. I installed it, and all went fine until i tried to access "startx". The error message is...
execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno2)
_X11TransSocketUNIXConnectL Candt connect: errno=11

And btw, i dont know how to install linux without using the Xwindow system. The manuals tells to type text at the startup lilo prompt when it boots, but it seems that the installation takes me directly to the Xwindow installation window.

any answers or suggestions?

Make sure that /etc/X11/X is linked to an X server. If you go into the /etc/X11 dir and do a "ls -l" you should see something like
Quote:
X -> ../../usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA
