Question

Hello everyone,

can someone please tell me where I can download
"Promise Ultra100TM IDE Controller Driver (for A7V with Promise Ultra100 IDE controller)" for Linux? I'm having major problem installing Linux 7.0. I know I need this driver because this same problem also happened when I was installing Win2K and I was able to resolve the problem when
I downloaded the driver (Promise Ultra 100TM IDE Controller Driver v1.60 (Build 25) for Win9x, WinME, WinNT4 and Win2000) for Win2K at http://www.asus.com/Products/Motherb...river_ide.html Unfortunately, Asus site does not have the driver for
linux. I have an AMD 900mhz asus a7v machine. I have a 30 gig 7200 ata100 drive on the ultra100 cables and slots.
If anyone can help I would really appreciate it!

Thank you!

Marci Sarwan (marci_sarwan@yahoo.com)

PS. Please feel free to email me!

Hello !

I also have the mainboard you mentioned, and I already downloaded the driver. Because of some other problems I have not installed the files yet.

The files are available at

Hello Calvinx,

thanks for replying! I went to the site but I can't seem to locate the file. Is it possible if you can give me the exact link and the file name? Also, are there instructions on how to resolve the problem? Your mainboard does it have 4 ide slots? Thanks a lot!

Hi,

I have Red Hat Linux 7.0. Is SuSe Lunux the same as Red Hat? Will the solution work for me?

The correct adress is:

http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/a7vpromise.html

but I still don't know, if the path, described there, works, becaus I have not tried that yet.

Of course I have four IDE-Slots (2xATA66, 2xATA100).

Exclamation the solutions is...

Newbie myself,but here's what I've found.
The newest kernel 2.4.2 has support for the controller.
download and compile it and you should be back in buisness. I had to install linux on my onboard standard ide controllers.
caveat:
I use RH7.0. It does not by default include the compiler needed to compile the new kernel. You have to select it. (it has gcc, not kgcc). You have to edit makefile. Feel free to email me if any questions. (joshb@rapidnet.com). Just got this working myself. Follow the oki1konky post for
the solutions. A lot of good people helped me out(<:!!
