I have a box which I have recently converted to Redhat
linux 6.2 and I am finding it takes a terribly long time
to connect to ftp, to transfer the file, or receiving files.
Can this be due to my server type? Or is there a configuration
issue?
When I am on my server and I run ftp
it takes a horribly long time to connect to
other boxes and uploading and downloading
are terribly slow and thats ftping between
boxes on my own network.
Are any other network services really slow, such as http or telnet? Initial connection delays are often due to DNS problems (check out /etc/hosts on both machines) but generally slow performance all round could be bad network setup. You using CAT5? If so are the collision lights working overtime on you hub (if you have them)?
You might wanna post detail of your network config if everything is slow, or just details of your FTP setup if its just FTP performace.
Basically it is a fresh install. I have same exact install
on other boxes and never had any problems. That was
why I was wondering if it was due to the server itself
i.e. HP Netserver Lpr.
I have had similar trouble in the past. My question for you is, did you customize a firewall(I.E. did you add anything to ipchains/iptables). I have had trouble and slowdown when dealing with TCP packet authentication on my box. Another issue is between Windows boxes and Linux boxes having VERY HIGH collision rates. I don't know how this translates, but on my 10mbit internal LAN I get on average 500-800 KBPS between my boxes. You'll notice that this is not the 1000KBPS I should be getting, but I deal with it It also seems to be worse on samba.
