Unhappy

I downloaded and burned Linux Mandrake 7.2 Beta. I started an install on a P133 machine with a formatted hard drive(1.6 gig) Two steps from the finish and it says it cannot install the "boot loader". What do I do?

Where are you telling it to install the boot loader during the install?

Angry

It gives me the option of the Master Boot Sector or the main hard drive. It gives the same error on either choice. After an hour on the install, I think I will stick with the easy install of Windows.

As for the master bott record it might be your BIOS that prevents you from writing to it. Check in your BIOS.

Maybe Mandrake thinks your too fancy

I have always had problems with Mandrake thinking I have a nicer computer than I should. Mandrake is maybe one of the only distributions which should have minimum system requirements. You may want to try an older version like 7.0 as they havent changed much except for some weird Mandrake specific things(and the serious changes can always be updated ie kernel).

If it is not too much trouble try one of the older Mandrakes. I would hate to to see you give up because you had install trouble(lord knows I have had enough of that in windoze)

Anyways, give it a chanc eand you will be pleasantlty surprised

It was a bad ISO that I burned. My son bought Mandarke 7.2 and it installed without a problem.
