Question

Well, after many many blunders and hacks of redhat 7.0 that I have done, it is time to do a format and fresh install. problem is, i cant figure out how. can someone kindly tell me how to format mt drive running linux? i actually havelinux red hat 7.0 for dummies, and i have learned alot from that in the last week, but no word on how to remove it. i dont want to overlay it with druid, i wanna wipe it squeeky clean. then i am gonna build some drives manually. can someone tell me how to uninstall erdhat without going thru and installing it again? thanx a million everyone!!

The easiest way would be to start another install and then delete the partitions in fdisk. Then just recreate your partitions, format and finish the install.

What OS are you wanting to install? You can always use fdisk to delete and create, format partitions and hard drives and anything you can dream of in getting your drive in squeeky clean condition.

Lightbulb Uninstalling Linux

I ran into this problem a coulpe of months ago. Fdisk will remove all partitions but will not correct the change that is made to the mbr by the lilo loader. To reset this you must use a 3rd party partition program. I used one called Partition Manager and had the situation solved in less than 5 minutes. If you have a disk editor you can use it to view the mbr and see the lilo entery, but in order to cange it back to something that say windows can use you must reset the mbr with one of these 3rd party programs.

To reset the MBR to dos/windows you just have to boot up your machine from an ordinary dos floppy containing fdisk (dos version) and then run fdisk with the option /MBR. This will rewrite your MBR.
