I have a problem using my network for printing.
The server runs Slackware 3.6 and has an Epson Stylus 640
color printer connected to the parallel port.
Two dual-boot machines are connected to this server, one running win95/mandrake and the other running win nt/debian.

I can print from both nt and win 95 using samba. but i cannot print from either linux partition, though i can print from the server using lpr. apsfilter is set up on the printer and a sample page has been printed.

the /etc/printcap on the debian partition is as under:

rlp|Remote printer entry:\
# :lp=/dev/null:\
:rm=gnubies.com:\
:rp=lp:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd:\
:mx#0:\
:sh:

the /etc/printcap on the server is as under:
lp:lp=/dev/lp1:mx#0:sd=/var/spool/lpd:sh:ff

the entries in hosts.lpd and hosts.equiv on the server
are okay.

what am i doing wrong?

Sam

I didn't understood if you use cups if not then do so it very well integrated with samba and it has a nice web interface.

I use debian and there is also a package that emulates bsd style lpr it's very handy no problems at all

there is also a system from EPS if I remember right that should be even better than cups but I'm very happy with cups - have been using it for couple of years without any problems.

regards
