Question

Does anyone have any advice on the best settings to use when configuring the monitor for a notebook (Compaq presario 1234)? I am installing Suse, and have not used it on a notebook before, and while I have looked at all literature I can find on the subject, I am still uncertain of which settings to use. Does anyone have any suggestions, or ideas where I might find my answers?

To know what X server to use you need to know what chipset the graphics card uses. The user manual should have this information. As far as resolution and bit depth , you can choose whatever values you like, as long as the display/graphics card can handle it.

Thanks..... Ah now I see my problem.... this is the information that should be in the rather small manual, but er.... isn't. I think I'll contact the manufacturer.

This information is usually in the manual. If it isn't it should definitely be on the website.

I think I have the info I need..... the manufacturer didn't seem to see why I wanted to know it though! I found where it should be on the web site but all it says is "information currently not avaliable" which is of great help...
