Someone please help!
After using the allegro library in DOS, or rather win2000 DOS (its suckiness was one of the reasons i'm now using linux) I thought I'd get the linux version, however...
I'm a complete linux newbie and trying to install the damn thing is a nightmare.
I've followed the instructions in the readme.uni file. I've done the "./configure" and "make depend bits" which seemed to work fine.
but when I get to the "su -c "make install"" bit it doesn't like it. I get error messages about an invalid character "(" in a mnemonic and a error code 1.
This happens for all the make install -man -info too. It then goes on to say it cant find the info and docs files even though they're right there just one directory down.
I'm doing this (as root) in both /allegro-3.96.1 and /usr/allegro-3.96.1. Should it matter where I do it?
Anyway I ploughed on ahead and tryed compiling one of the example programs using gcc and the `allegro-config --libs` backtick bit but then i get an error from bash saying it can't find allegro-config (the install routine said it had installed it but i'm damned if i know where it is or whats going on) and the libraries weren't linked - the compiler throws up a whole load of undefined refs to the allegro functions.
If anyone has had any experience with allegro please help as i really wanna get programming!
Ta in advance...
