Question

I finally have a hardware modem hooked up to my Linux Box.
I configured kppp and it dials in and connects to my ISP.

When I run Netscape it cannot find any of the domain names.
My ISP assigns me a IP address each time I log in. I have it configured for that.

I am using Mandrake 7.0 with the serial modem and KDE as my
desktop interface.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you type in an IP address does it work? If it does then you do not have DNS configured correctly. If it doesn't then let us know.

Cool linux modem

This really does sound like a cut and dry DNS issue, like jeremy said. Try and go to http://216.32.74.55 in your favorite web browser. That's the IP of http://www.yahoo.com. If you can load the page then ya really need to screw around with /etc/resolve.conf and fix your DNS problems. Also, out of curiosity, which hardware modem did you buy?

No luck typing a an IP address in. Tried geocities, and several others, get same message. Let me know if you can
assist.

Thanks

To be honest, I found a generic modem in my junk box.
I get 28800 out of it, and for now till I get it working
that suits me fine.

Tried typing the URL's in and no luck there either, I get the same message. Thanks for the reply.

Question

What is the exact error message that you get?
