Question

I want to autostart my dynamic ip address client when I startup. I use Dynip.com and to start the dynipclient.exe I must first start a console then execute ./dynipclient then I am set with my dynamic ip address.

How go about autostarting this? The dynipclient file is located in /usr/local/bin.

Many thanks.

does that need to be on before you connect or does it matter if it is afterwards?
if it is necessary, then it needs to be started in your startup scripts. either append it to one of your other files or make a new script in the appropriate directory then do the symlink in the right start up level directory (im assuming that you are not using slackware).

if it doesn;t matter then you can have it started up in the ip-up script which is run after you connect to the internet. this can be set in /etc/ppp/ip-up or by kppp (or gppp) in one of the setting pages.

a temporary solution perhaps...

this is what i did...

i found ftpd, the binary file (and executable if you will) in /opt/kde/share/suse/communications/misc/ftpd...then i made a symbolic link to this file and put the link in /home/hseritt/Desktop/Autostart...

I know this is kind of a vanilla answer and it may not work with your filesystem as all distros differ a bit.

hope it helps!
