HELP!
i have compiled the new 2.4 kernel and now it wont boot
gets to lilo says boot: then says booting linux , uncompressing kernel ...... done and hangs!


is there a way to get back to the old one?

i am running mandrake 7.1

please can anybody help!

Make sure that you compiled the kernel for the right processor. This happened to someone else here and it ended up that the kernel was compiled for a PIII and he only had a PII.

If you d/l the kernel and kernel-headers using the .mdk package and followed its directions - it should have added a lilo or grub option for you.

You would then just pick the old one from the list upon boot.

ERR?!

How do i get in to the system ?
i compiled it then did make install
cos Linus said in his README
re booted and just get
lilo
boot: loading linux...
uncompressing kernel......... OK
booting kernel.

and at this point it hangs!?
any ideas?
would i have to reinstall?

Bootdisk?

Did you make a bootdisk during your original install?

If so - boot from it and edit lilo back to the original kernel. The HOWTO-lilo docs provides a good example of how to edit it.

If not - you can make a boot disk from your original CD using RAWWRITE. I believe it is included in the documention that came with Mandrake.
