Unhappy

I finally got Linux installed and I got X working (yay for me !). I had tried Debian and Red Hat but neither of them could seem to get my graphics card working. Somehow magically Mandrake 7.1 is working fine. I was just messing around in it, and in the Drak conf utility I changed the mouse from a generic ps/2 to a Microsoft intellimouse ps/2 (which supposedly is what I have). So I reboot and I have no mouse at all. It's like I disconnected it or something. But I couldn't figure out how to get into the Drak conf utility by the keyboard and I couldn't read any docs because i couldn't use the mouse. Please Help!!! Thank you for replying.

First of all, if you're booting straight into X and have a graphical session, you can get into terminal mode by pressing CTRL-ALT-F1 or CTRL-ALT-F2... depending on the virtual terminal you want to use. Normally you have six setup by default, therefore, if this is the case, to get back to your X session, you would press CTRL-ALT-F7.

As far as mouse configuration programs Redhat supplies a "mouseconfig" tool that lets you configure your mouse from the console. I don't know for sure if Mandrake has it, but it may.

If you don't have mouseconfig, the file that controls your mouse, at least with Redhat (yours should be similar) is /etc/sysconfig/mouse. For X, the mouse is configured in the /etc/X11/XF86Config file. I think the XF86Setup and the xf86config program will allow you to change X mouse settings (Backup your current XF86Config file before using these though).

You can find more information on X at:
http://ctdp.tripod.com/os/linux/usersguide/index.html
Item 40. Item 28 gives a rundown of some system configuration tools.
For mouse and system configuration file information:
http://ctdp.tripod.com/os/linux/howl...rks/index.html

I hope this helps.
Item 13.

Question Sorta Kinda Worked

Well, i used mouseconfig and I changed the mouse back to ps/2. X works for a while, but then the mouse either freezes, or disapears. It does not seem to coincide with anything I do in the system, it just seems to happen after about five minutes. Any apps I have open still work though.

This is what I have been able to find out about my mouse:
Microsoft Intellimouse 1.2A
PS/2 Compatible

Also, my ethernet card was not auto detected? How would I manually set it up? (I'm not on a network, I just use it for a cable modem)

The driver for the FA311 can be found here - http://www.scyld.com/network/ethercard.html
You want natsemi.c

The Netgear EA201 uses the tulip network driver.

I have an Netgear EA201 but no drivers. I see it uses Tulip Network Driver, but that don't mean so much to me
I run Fedora Core 2
