Question

After the initial install, it seems to be using gnome. Welp, that is what I elected to install and .gnome is in my /home/vaugerant dir.

When I have installed other distro's, the gnome desktop looked different. It has the "gnome" button(foot icon) for instance. This has a "windows" like desktop with a debian 2.2 start button. How can I get the gnome "look" in Debian?

May I suggest Helix Gnome? I am using it on my Debian box and like it quite a bit more than the stock gnome.

Thumbs up Woohoo!

Welp, I didn't get Helix Gnome - BUT I did manage to update to Xfree86 4.0 and KDE 2.1beta2 under Debian!

Small feat, but gawd I am estatic!

How I did it:

1. Clean install - only installed Xwindows(core) + dev packages (gnome was not installed)
2. Added an unstable ftp site to /etc/apt/sources.list
3. apt-get install kdebase

apt-get is dah best thing since beer, welp I wouln't go quite that far...

The Helix install is great. Just type the following as root:
Code:
lynx -source http://go-gnome.com/ | sh
