I will assume you are running red hat 6.2, as linux 6.2 does not exist. If you are running a different distro please let me know. If you would like to get networking going ASAP you may just want to use netcfg (an X program) or netconfig (a console program). If these do not work, or you want to know how to set things up manually let us know.
i use red hat linux 6.2 and i tried to setup with linuxconf, but that was no success. now i would like to setup manually.. i hope you want to help me..

Too bad I can't see your original message from this reply. Guess I could open another browser instance, but I'm too lazy. It's ine of those sundays.
I too am quite new with Linux, so I'm bound to say something wrong.
First. Are you sure that you don't have IRQ problems? Try to set your BIOS on 'non pnp OS'. Let Linux do the thinking.
Second. Did Linux ask you to configure your NIC during installation? If not, it probably didn't find it. If you don't remember; reboot Linux and watch the progress during boot-up. At some point you should see a message similar to: 'Bringing up interface eth0' if the system states it's 'o.k.', your lucky. If it says 'delaying..something', you didn't configure it the right way. There are two ways to conf. the card (if linux actually found it, but since it's an 3Com card, my guess is that it did) You can either use linuxconf or Netcfg, with the first being the best one to conf. The latter is a bit safer.
I'm not going to state the whole thing, since I'm not sure anyone even reads this thread, but these are some things you can try. If you have additional questions, feel free to ask.

GoG,
The whole thread should be on the reply screen under where you are replying. The exception to this is in the case where the thread spans multiple pages.

Ehrm, shame? I never noticed :-) Silly me. What about the rest of the reply? Did I say something useful?
But really, I usually look/ read before saying anything. lol.
Btw. do you know if there is a prog (on RedHat 6.0) like ppp or kppp to configure a Cable-modem? Eth0 & Eth1 are set up properly (DNS and all). PPP wants me to configure a normal modem, which I don't have.
