hello. i am new to linux, but somewhat familar w/ IRIX. i wanted to configure my .bashrc file (somewhat like my .cshrc file is configured on IRIX).

the first thing i want to do is change the command "ls" to be "ls -CFa" ... i figured out how to do it if i want to make "lf = ls -CFa" ... but i just want to make "ls" be "ls -CFa"

does anyone know how to do that?

and, can anyone point me in the direction of a good website discussing

a) the differences/advantages/disadvantages of all the shell types (csh, tcsh, bash, bash2, etc)

b) a good, explict, easy description of how to use the shell types ... and, specifically, change the .bashrc file (similar to the change i want to make above)

if CFa are the parms u want, then it should be (w/o double quotes) "alias ls='ls -FCa'"

I added the following to my /home/blah/.bashrc file:

alias ls='ls -aCF --color'

However, even after i open a new window ... or even restart ... "ls" still acts as "ls"

If I add

alias ll='ls -aCF --color'

It works ... but, I don't want that Any suggestions?
