Iam pretty new to Linux but have a basic knowledge of this truley brilliant OS. I have been given what I think is a near impossible task of setting up RH 7.0 along with our NT server. I have been reading info on the LDP and other such websites but can't seem to work it out. Can anyone please help with this.
Err.. what do you need to do? Set up a dual boot system?
In a nutshell, install win NT first followed by RH. RH's installation should be able to detect NT when installing lilo (linux loader) and configure it for dual boot. You should install lilo to the MBR. I am assuming that you are using lilo to dual boot your system and not using other third party boot managers.
Opps.. then you will need samba at http://www.samba.org. There's a free online book on Samba by O'reilley somewhere. I don't have the link with me right now but you should be able to find it with a search.
Another question, is Samba a pain to setup and get running. From what I remember does it not rely on 2 services something like the inetd and another one or am I just barking up the wrong tree.
Rh uses xinetd which is supposed to be better than inetd.
You can use tools like swat or webmin to set up samba on yur box. That beats editing smb.conf by hand. Just save a copy of your original smb.conf with all the helpful comments since swat will overwrite your original smb.conf. The rpms can probably be found on your RH CDs.
If you have selected to install samba during install, you need to change "disable = yes" to "disable = no" in /etc/xinetd.d/swat since swat is disabled by default.

Thanks in advance.
One popular setup in your case appears to be setting up the NT Swerver as the Primary Domain Controller for your domain and then using the Samba box(es) as the actual file and print services. In your case the most difficult aspect of the setup is setting up the machine accounts on the Samba boxes, which really isn't all that bad. The SMB servers look to the NT swerver for account info and ACLs.
Book Plug!!! "Samba Black Book" Dominic Baines, Coriolis Open Press.
Hi
Step 1 Install Samba
Step 2 Enable SWAT
Step 3 Open SWAT
Step 4 Read the using Samba book found on the SWAT "Homepage" It's the O'Reilly one. Much detail on different OS requirements, and explains what to do complete with screenshots. Sorted me out!
