Whenever I try to telnet to my LINUX host from a remote machine (UNIX, Win98, Win2000 have all been tried), telnet login is very slow and so is response on the session once I get logged in. My LINUX host sits behind a cable modem on Cox@Home network. Haven't ever tried telneting out.

In addition, when I ftp to my LINUX host, first responses are good but, eventually, it grinds to a halt.

Besides replacing the unit between the keyboard and the chair, what can I do to correct this?

Thanks! That helped. WHY did that help?

FTP seems to be running very well now but I'm still experiencing a little slowness on the telnet side. For example, if I type "ls -alF" on my command line, I start typing, 1-2 seconds later, the "l" shows up on the screen, then a delay, then the "s", then the list shows up and I don't even see the " -alF" except at the top of the list. Am I talking about a different problem now?

dunno why .. I had similar problems with telnetting to a LINUX server from a PC .. I read somewhere about "resolving" so I deleted resolve.conf (it was empty)
just as a suck-it-and-see.

I think its different protocols i.e Win does not send an id
where Linux expects one or vice-versa
something like

can I have a service ->
<- yes who are you
I'm xxxxx ->
<- ok xxxxx here you go

AS AGAINST

I'm xxxx can I have a service ->
<- here you go xxxx
