I have completed an install of RedHat 7.0 on an AST Ascentia J10. After some serious out-thinking of myself I finally have Linux up and running on it... ha!
Now, two questions...
1) Where do I find the switch that turns off the graphical logon interface that automatically starts X? I would like to log in to the text based environment.
2) When in Gnome or KDE I am getting my screen only drawn on 3/4 of the monitor. I am getting a virtual window that is active and I can get to all the functionality but, this 3/4 (horizontal 3/4 vertical 100%) is not right... I am using the Acer 11D monitor settings... Any ideas?
Okay first you want to change your runlevel to 3, instead of 5 in the inittab file.
Your other problem would resided in your XF86Config file, most likely you will need to manually edit it to turn off virtual display settings.
The Run Level in inittab did the trick for starting with the GUI... My only question is how did I set that by mistake... Something for me to ponder...
I have commented out the refereces to Virtual within the XF86Config file, No luck... Still getting a screen 3/4 of the way accross the monitor. After changing the file, I ran /etc/lilo and then rebooted machine... No luck - I changed copy of XL86Config in /etc/X11... What is the deal with XL86Config-4? How can I tell what config file I am using?
first - run Xconfigurator from cmd prompt
and select only one graphical mode.
if that doesn't work - you can switch between graphical modes using ctr+alt+(numeric keypad '+')
I finally got it... I had to remove everything except one entry in the XF86Config file... If anyone needs a copy of this for their own AST J-series machine... Let me know.
hello,
I've got a problem with my linux RedHat 6.1 and my laptop Acer 212TX. The problem is that I can't configure the Xserver because I haven't any driver for my video card Trident Cyberblade Ai1. Whe I go to the Trident web site, I don't find any information...
Now I ask some help, some trick to configure my video card and use my monitor in a resolution al least of 800x600. My previous tries had set the resolution to 320x200... It's impossible to use...
