Hi Guys this is kind of urgent. My company has a global network and they are coming to setup our office. They want to setup terminal emulation on the windows clients here in the office and they are using ci220 or vt220 client and not a Wyse60 type. What do I need to use? Does Linux already have everything I need? I am using Mandrake 7.2 (stop laughing) and I need to reinstall it anyways. I need to be able to Telnet, ftp & lpr printing. Do I do these with individual programs or do I need a silly client like the windows suckers use? Can somebody give me some advice/point me in the right direction/be my tutor? I really want to stop using windows but the company doesnt have anyone else who uses Linux as a workstation. If I figure it out it means I could help setup other people in the company as well (if its not too difficult). Anyways this probably sounds like a dumb newbie question but we all gotta start somewhere right?

Jasutinsama. You might consider using a better descriptive topic in future messages. You may notice there are a lot of topics and many times a person browing the questions will pick a topic or subject of which they are familiar. Sorry about my teaching mode showing so much, but you did ask for a tutor. My teaching mode would have stood out anyway, however.

The terminal and ftp clients are installed by default in Linux. The most common terminal emulator is xterm. When I use it to log in, I use it as a vt100 standard. Click on one of the items that includes "term" as part of the name to bring one up.

For this terminal serssion, you can run ncftp or ftp at the command prompt. You can type in "man ncftp" or "man ftp" to get detailed information of how to use those appications.

Which X session are you using? Kde, Gnome? I'll look at the option of your X client to advise how to use a graphic version of ftp.

Sorry about the corny title of the my question. I was in a hurry. I am sorry that I did not mention that I use KDE 2. I have been using gftp for your usual website stuff but I dont know if this is the right program for this application. It should be in theory since you have your server ip, username and password.

I need the terminal for telnet sessions with a RS660(?). Will Xterm work for this. Where would I learn the commands I need to know?

The printing thing shouldnt be a problem should it? We are using one of the HP Laserjet printers setup with the JetDirect network system. Can Linux work in this environment. Boy, I am really starting to sound like a freakin newbie.

On a side note, I guess I am forced to use Lotus Notes for e-mail and connecting with the companies database at some levels. Has anyone ever used the client for Linux?
